Meet JewishMOM of the Week: Sara Gallor

I’m thrilled to be introducing a new feature on JewishMOM.com, “JewishMOM of the Week.” This means that every week I hope to feature a different JewishMOM.com reader, so that all of us JewishMOMs can start “meeting” each other. I am personally fascinated to learn more about the moms behind my site statistics and the faces behind the comments. Enjoy!

JewishMOM of the Week, Sara Gallor, during her most recent pregnancy.

Where did you grow up? In Monsey, New York

Where do you live today? In Seattle, Washington

How old are you? 29

How old are your kids? 4 ½ (girl), 3 ½ (girl), and 9 months (boy)

If you are a WM or a SAHM? I’m a SAHM and proud of it!

Outside of mothering, what do you most love to do? Really getting lost in a book – I haven’t done that in years!

What school/university did you attend? Bais Rochel in Monsey, Yeshiva of Greater Washington in Silver Spring, Maryland and Neve Yerushalayim for 2 years

How do you define yourself hashkafically? I’m a second generation baal teshuva (my parents are both BTs)– I think we are in a category of our own – we never seem to fit into any mold. But I guess you could say chareidi?

What’s your favorite part of being a mom? I love being a part of the MOM club – just feeling connected with all other moms because we’re doing this huge job together and we all understand each other.

What’s the toughest part, for you, of being a mom? The constant pulls and demands to always be “on” and to be in a good mood. They need me to always answer and be there and listen…

How did you hear about JewishMOM.com? My friend Eleanor was pregnant with her third and I was pregnant with my first. I was on the phone with her and she told me how she was looking forward to the birth itself. Looking forward?! So she told me that your book (Expecting Miracles) was a huge part of her positive attitude and that I better go out and get that book. So I bought it that day and found out about your blog through that and now I also look forward to my labors – they’re the highlights of my life.

How long have you been reading JewishMOM.com? I started with the books and have been getting the weekly newsletters and peptalks for about 5 years. I’ve only started really being an active blog reader for about a year. (3 of my friends here in Seattle are also members and we discuss the site almost every time we get together!)

What’s your favorite part of JewishMOM.com? I love that it’s always being updated, so there’s always something new to read. And it’s short and quick so that I can get my fix of chizuk, humor and connection all in 5 minutes, before my daughter starts pulling on my sleeve asking for something!

Would you like to be featured as a JewishMOM of the Week? If yes, please send me a short paragraph about yourself and a photo of you with your children.

  1. Wow what a great person and mom. I’m so proud and appreciative!

  2. Wow, Sara seems like a wonderful, warm, loving Jewish mother…I sure hope that her kids appreciate her!! May she and her husband be blessed with the good health, wealth, and “koyach” to be able to raise a large Jewish family!!!

  3. very funny… those are my parents

  4. What a great feature idea. Nice to meet you, Sara. My dad lives in West Seattle. Does Seattle still have that great vegetarian restaurant with all the fake treif?

  5. Thanks for the inspiration! Being that I am a Bais Rochel grad and you look a little familiar, I was wondering if I may ask for your maiden name. (My maiden name is Bloch.) Hatzlocha in raising your beautiful children!

  6. Most of Seattle’s restaurants are fake and vegetarian!

I don’t know any Sima Bloch but Yocheved Bloch was in my class. My maiden name is Abramson.

  7. Love the new feature idea! Love how Sara call herself a second generation baalas teshuva – I’m the same way and totally relate to how it’s a category in and of itself!
