Stuck to my Fridge with Crazy Glue

Stuck to my Fridge with Crazy Glue

Translation: “And it seemed to me that the land that had I walked upon and the streets that I had passed through were nothing more than an entryway leading to this home.” SY Agnon

Years ago I received a wedding invitation with this quotation below, and I thought it was one of the most beautiful things I’d ever read, so I taped it to my fridge for a few years, until I put away one erev Pesach and never found it again…

B”H, this morning I received another invitation with this same quotation…this time I think I’m going to stick it to the fridge with crazy glue.

Why do I love this quotation so much? Because it reminds me of all the places I have wandered in my life…My assimilated Baltimore Jewish childhood and my 9 years at a Quaker school and my 3 years in Maine at a Congregationalist college and my travels to Russia and the Ukraine and Armenia and Indonesia…And this quotation reminds me that my half a lifetime as a wandering Jew was not spent in vain.

This whole labyrinth of a life was leading up to the pinnacle and point of it all: my life today as a religious wife and mother in this messy, crowded, hectic, and (don’t forget, Chana Jenny!) blessed home. B”H.
