  1. Omg, I totally, completely, absolutely, relate!, just having heard you verbalize my everyday a.m. routine, it just really helps, and the voice over tool..amazing!

  2. Thank you!! I really needed to hear this–I am not the only mom who gets frustrated & feels like growling sometimes!! And now, when I do feel this way, I’m excited to try the voice over!

  3. Great Peptalk! Thanks for posting these! Your baby is beautiful!!

I think my inner voice is almost always “I can’t do this – I am too tired to deal with this now”. I guess I need to get more sleep :~)

Two things that help me with my own terrible two. (I know you have a ton of experience, but this is just what works for me.) First, I love to say “act your age” in a fake stern voice, because it makes me see the humor in the situation since she is acting her age. Second, sometimes when we go through one of your cornflakes-like situations, if it something that repeats itself everyday, I just take a firm stand on it once – “today we choose once and dont switch” and I do not switch no matter how much she screams. Usually this will just prevent the situation from repeating itself day after day, and I prefer one day of tears, kicking the floor, hungry kid who refuses to eat breakfast, to day after day of driving me bonkers.

    • thanks sara, I appreciate your advice. I liked this “act your age” idea:)

      • I think it’s totally amazing that your kids eat breakfast! Don’t take that for granted!

  4. As you know, Chana, the voice idea connects with Rabbi Nivin’s Great Expectations module. Now, when I hear my voice saying “but this kid should be doing ___!” the word “should” stops me in my tracks and I can focus on what he/she is actually doing and how to address it, rather than staying stuck on what he/she “should” be doing according to my plan. (But just a word of confession – I still have a long way to go!)

    • thanks debi, it’s been years since i did that module, that’s exactly what it is…
