I Quit My Job and Got a New Job all at Once (5-Minute SAHM Video)

I once heard some sage advice from Rabbanit Esther Levanon regarding the stay-at-home-mom vs. working mom debate. She said that a mother needs to figure out which choice makes her a better mother. There are moms who are better moms when they get out of the house and work. And there are moms who are better moms when they don’t. In this thought-provoking video JewishMOM Rivka Malka shares the reasons behind her difficult decision to quit her job for that very reason…

  1. I love this woman, her blog is very nice and she is very courageous: she puts aside what she loves to do and what she is so good at to be there for her family; same thing i did but to see other women doing it give us strength and more purpose! Thank you Jenny since you are also amont those women who are moms before being active women! I am the only one among my friends to have done that and it is always the ones with babies and carreers who are called”courageous”……..

  2. Dear Rivka Malka,
I’m really happy for you! I also left formally teaching and mentoring new teachers which I LOVE to be at home with my teenage kids and husband, as well as married kids and grandchildren. Before I oficially left, I was concerned about my decision even though I knew I was doing the right thing for myself and my family. This is the first time in a long time that I feel “in sync” with what I feel my role as a Jewish wife and mother is. Baruch Hashem and thanks for sharing. I really enjoyed your video.

  3. I don’t know… I come to this blog to find inspiration, and tonight post after post has been about people who are full time moms. Huge conflict for me. My mother was a full time mom, but I love teaching, so I do it part time. But can’t I be a good mother nonetheless?

    • I’m sorry about that. It’s definitely not my intention to say that being a SAHM is better than being a working mom. That’s not they way I feel AT ALL.

It’s true that on JewishMOM.com I try to provide extra chizuk for SAHMs (who I think tend to be less respected by society–Jewish and general) I think that in terms of the work/home balance every woman needs to make the decision that works for her– based on this rule (that I quoted before the Rivka Malka video)

      • I guess you do SUCH a good job supporting SAHMs that I was starting to feel like moms who also work out of the house are second class ๐Ÿ˜‰

Appreciate the clarification (both yours and Ann’s below), and don’t worry, I’m still coming back for inspiration here. Thanks!

  4. There is no problem to teach or work as long as the family come first! Rivka malka’s choice came because it was a 24/7 job as she
    put it herself!
