Signs of Hope for Eyal, Gilad, and Naftali

Ami Magazine interviewed Rabbi Binyamin Elyashiv (the son of HaRav Elyashiv zts”l) who conducted the famous Goral HaGra* to determine the fate of the 3 boys. He turned to the verse in the book of Judges (15:14) that reads, “Samson came to Lechi, and the Philistines shouted at him. A spirit of Hashem came over him, and the ropes that were on his arms became like flax that had been singed by fire; his bonds melted from upon his hands.”

In preparation for the huge gathering for the boys planned in Tel Aviv tonight, the three mothers were interviewed by Akiva Novick of Yediot Achronot this past Friday. Here’s an excerpt:

“The only moment during the interview when all three mothers smiled came when we asked them if they imagine the moments when their boys will return home from captivity. “Of course,” answered Bat-Galim, “it will be the biggest party in the world.” Iris laughs and tells them that “people are already leaving things at my house and saying these things are for the party we will have to give thanks when the boys come home.” Racheli updates them, “We have everything ready, from A to Z. We even have somebody who will officiate at their weddings—Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz (the dean of Mekor Chaim Yeshiva where Naftali and Gilad are students) has already requested that honor.”

Racheli Frankel told IDF Radio today: “I try not to think too deeply, though, because those kinds of thoughts can deplete your energy. But we have good reason to be optimistic,” Frenkel said. “The signs point to their still being alive, and G-d willing with all the efforts and prayers I hope we will get them back alive.”

Amen, IY”H may we soon see the boys safe and sound back home!

*Rabbi Moshe Taub of Ami explains “The goral is achieved by opening a Torah or Bible in a certain way that will lead the petitioner to a verse that provides a clue or an answer to his question.”
