A Funeral Instead of a Wedding

A Funeral Instead of a Wedding

This Tisha b’Av I will also be crying for Gali Nir, the fiance of 26-year-old IDF Major Bnaya Sarel HY”D.

Over 10,000 people attended Sarel’s funeral at Hebron’s ancient cemetery late this past Saturday night. Gali, whom he was supposed to marry in three weeks, said:

“I have no way to attempt to explain to you my pain. The evening before you fell, we had a long talk. It was an optimistic conversation, and we laughed. You said that the following day there would be a ceasefire and that you would be able to call again. Yesterday they told me that you were for sure already out of Gaza. I sent you an SMS at 9:30 [exactly the time he was killed] that I hope you feel better and how much I love you. But I don’t know if you ever saw it.

“I want to say ‘Thank you’ for the best three years of my life. Thank you for your truth. Thank you for bringing me into your life. That you taught me so much. Thank you for your infinite love. For your laughter. And for your eyes that will accompany me for the rest of my life.”

  1. Oh the pain. No words. HaShem: Please help us be worthy of building your House. Please reunite us with those we have lost.
