Shimon Gross Visits Shiva of Chaya Zissel Braun HY”D

Over the last few days I, like many of us parents, have been feeling sad about a tragedy which took place last Wednesday in Jerusalem—the inhuman murder by an Arab terrorist of 3-month-old Chayah Zissel Baron. She was the first child born to her parents after three years of marriage.

Yesterday, I read something that brought me some comfort for the first time since the murder. According to the website, Kikar HaShabbat, R. Shimon Gross, who lost his own two daughters in a tragic accident last year, paid a visit to the Baron family shiva. He told the Kikar HaShabbat reporter, “I told them what I heard from Rabbi Kanyevsky Shlit”a, that after din [judgment] we see much chesed [kindness]. In this situation, it is perhaps difficult to see now, but as time passes and you look, then you will be able to see much kindness and Divine assistance and strength to continue on. You can’t fill up the past, but at least it’s possible to fill up the future.”

Shimon Gross continued: “I promised them that I would return with my wife in order to sit with them,” in order to suggest ways to cope with their sadness and loss.

May Hashem bless and provide comfort for this suffering young couple. Our hearts are with you…

  1. So so so so so sad. The poor parents.

  2. He is probably the only one who can give true Nechama – because he truly suffered a similar tragedy and has gone on with his life. The thing is he has other children to help distract from the emptiness. We should all know of no more sorrow!
