  1. Wow! Chana jenny, you were right up my recent trail of thought ..My husband this past week was feeling very bad about his job as in his current company there’s a lot of fighting going on b/w the board members and CEO, and his boss isn’t paying attention to anything he’s doing. And then I realized, in one epiphany of a moment, that he has always had a boss above him who gives him (hopefully) positive feedback on what he does. And I then realized that in my job, (both my “job job” and life job of being a Jewish mom) I have no supervisor. I have no1 (human) above me to tell me: “You were amazing, feeding that baby last night!” or “You saved some chocolate for your husband. You are SO thoughtful!” And it just hit me–I am that person! Just as I am “on the lookout” on how to complement and encourage my kids/husband, I must be on the lookout for myself–not just reminding myself what I missed/did wrong/didn’t accomplish. I am my own cheer leader, and if “ein ani li, mi li.” And if I can constantly point out to myself the good that I have/do, BH I will find good in others without effort. Even point the good out to yourself verbally, worst comes to worse your kids will also learn to appreciate their own efforts!

  2. rabbi nivin says the key is self-congratulating ourselves several times a day for our efforts (not our success, which are not in our hands anyway).
