Pesach Energy-Sapper of the Day: “If Only We Had Money to Go Away to a Hotel!”

Pesach Energy-Sapper of the Day: “If Only We Had Money to Go Away to a Hotel!”

Pesach Energy-Sapper #6: “I WANT TRANQUILITY. MAYBE ONE DAY WE CAN MAKE ENOUGH MONEY SO THAT WE CAN GO AWAY TO A HOTEL FOR ALL OF PESACH. THEN I WOULDN’T HAVE TO CLEAN AT ALL!”

Rabbi Aryeh Nivin’s Response: Preparing for Pesach is an avoda, and the word “Avoda” means two things: it means serving Hashem and it also means work! And preparing for Pesach is definitely both of these things: it is our way of serving Hashem and fulfilling His will, which we accomplish by working hard.

And this is the way it’s supposed to be. Getting ready for Passover isn’t meant to be tranquil. It’s supposed to be a journey.

And what if you are going away to a hotel? Try to clean at least one room.

By cleaning and preparing for the holiday, we are spending these days involved in what the Torah is telling us to be involved in. And if we do that, for deep and profound psychological and mystical reasons, we will grow.

The goal of this pre-Passover journey is not tranquility. The goal is personal and spiritual growth and a greater knowledge of Hashem.

Chag Kasher v’Sameach!

  1. I am loving these Pesach Energy-Sappers of the Day. I have related to all of them on some level so far – they are so helpful! Thank you!

  2. Yes interesting. I had an opportunity to spend Pesach in an already-clean apartment. At first I jumped at the opportunity but then thought that Pesach wouldn’t be the same without a little “cleaning”. I felt like I was cheating!! In the end we are staying home and I feel much better about it. it’s also good for chinuch because the schools are all about cleaning etc and it’s good for the kids to be involved in that and to see it happening at home.
That said: a hotel holiday I wouldn’t turn down!!
    :-))
