If You Give a Mom a Muffin :)

If You Give a Mom a Muffin :)

This chilly October morning I bundled up my 10-month-old, Yonatan, in long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and a warm sweatshirt. But I looked through his drawers and couldn’t find any socks for him.

So right after I dropped off Tsofia at gan I went with Yonatan over to the grocery store thinking maybe they sell socks.

But on my way to the accessories aisle, I saw beans. I needed beans big time for my Shabbat lunch enchilada surprise (shhh, don’t tell Josh!)

Which reminded me I needed grated cheese to put on top, and crushed tomatoes.

And what about dessert? Last week I forgot to get dessert, and it wasn’t pretty. A package of icecream for only 17 sheks!

Nougat-flavored bamba, fire-hot doritos, pringles, sugar-free wafers for eema.

And of course, an industrial-sized package of Shabbat toilet paper.

B”H, there was nobody else at the cashier and she started going through my stuff, but then I realized I’d forgotten something.

The salsa!

I ran back to the sauce area across from the meat counter, found the salsa, and ran back to the cashier, and she rang up my bill.

I stuffed my two bags under the stroller and as I walked out the door and balanced the Shabbat toilet paper on top, I was feeling awfully efficient– only 9:40 in the morning and I was already on my way back home with my groceries.

And then I smiled down at Yonatan, with his long pants, long shirt, sweatshirt and cold bare feet…

Can you please post that delicious sounding recipe?! cheese, tomatoes, beans…. YUM!

    • fried 2 onions, mixed with 4 cups beans and veggie ground beef and crushed tomatoes and garlic. Then rolled that into corn wraps (I forget what they are called) and covered with shredded cheese, and baked at 350 for half an hour. Will tell you how they were on sunday!!

And my husband read over my shoulder and also asked for that recipe for Shabbos! How do you heat it on Shabbos?

  8. It’s a great poem. This is actually a takeoff on a children’s book called “If You Give a Mouse a Cookie”

  9. Chanale, Dreaming of seeing you in your new home.! (: Check out Sarah Yehudit Schneider’s Meditation Series at astillsmallvoice.org, a series of short videos. Not only might it help you remember why you came to the grocery store in the first place; to write a shopping list; to manage to put that list in a place where you will take it with you. . . but also how to fulfill the mitzvot of keeping Hashem present with you always.

    • sounds cool! please come visit me when you are in jerusalem next, i would love to see you:)
