What the Arab at the Market Told my Husband:)

Last Friday my husband, Joshua, picked out some dill for our chicken soup at the Jerusalem market.

When he asked the Arab seller how much the dill cost, Josh was surprised that the price had gone up since the last time he’d bought dill in the market.

“What? So expensive?” Josh asked.

The Arab seller gave Josh a stern look and said, “Sir, Lichvod Shabbat Kodesh! In honor of the holy Sabbath!”

  1. Hahahahahahaha!

  2. Your husband is clearly a lofty soul, who can take this Arab’s retort as a “bat kol” of mussar for himself. I do that sometimes, but in this little vignette all I saw was a smart-alecky salesman who knows the lingo and stands to make a profit if he can get at your Achilles heel, in this case, love of Shabbat, or maybe, healthy Jewish guilt. He made the sale, right?

  3. I agree with Savta.
Not nice of the Arab at all. Disgusting.
