A Terror Victim’s Prayer for her Arab Patients

Yesterday, Dafna Meir, a 39-year-old mother of 6 from Otniel was brutally stabbed to death by an Arab terrorist by her home. Even though she was unarmed, she managed to battle the terrorist for several minutes in order to keep him away from her children who were playing, unaware, inside.

By profession, Dafna Meir was a nurse at Soroka Hospital in Beersheva. She also was involved in fertility education and had a blog called Derech Nashim on women’s reproductive health.

On her blog, Dafna once posted a prayer she wrote for her patients, including the many Arab and other non-Jewish patients under her care at Soroka Hospital. She wrote:

“May it be your will, Creator of the World, who runs the world with kindness and mercy, that I should merit to give out medications to members of Your people, Israel, who are in need of redemption and also to the children of other nations who are under the dedicated care of your messengers, who are engaged in this holy service, day and night, on Shabbat and Holidays, without delay…

“May it be Your will that I merit to learn and to identify, in a healthy way, with the patients’suffering and to help them to the best of my abilities with the tools which you give me every day and every hour. Amen.”

At her funeral this morning, Education Minister Naftali Bennett said, “Inside a great darkness, Dafna, you lit up your surroundings. You took your light with you everywhere you went.”

May Hashem provide comfort to Dafna’s grieving husband and children.
