Wearing Pajamas on Rosh Hashana

Wearing Pajamas on Rosh Hashana

A Charedi woman once told Rabbanit Yemima Mizrachi:
“I used to be judgmental of people who were different from me.
“But I changed when my son got cancer.
“When I was in the hospital with him, everyone there was wearing pajamas.
“So I made friends who were religious but not Charedi, friends who were traditional, friends who were secular.
“We were all together, in the same boat, not knowing who was going to live and who was going to die.”

“And that,” Rabbanit Yemima explained, “is how Rosh Hashana is. All of us are wearing pajamas. Not knowing who is going to live and who is going to die. In Hashem’s eyes, all of us together, all of us the same.”
