Yaakov’s Boo-Boo

Yaakov’s Boo-Boo

Last week, 5-year-old Yaakov got a scratch on his left thumb.

And today he looked at his thumb–and the scratch was gone.

Yaakov began jumping up an down, “We have to tell Abba! Hashem made a great, great, great miracle!”

“What miracle?” I asked.

“I had a scratch, and now it’s completely gone! It’s a MIRACLE!”

I didn’t say anything, but this is what I thought, “The scratch healed through your body’s natural healing process. Enough days passed, and the scratch healed. No miracle here.”

But an hour later, when his big sister came home from school, Yaakov told her about the great, great, great miracle that befell him…

And as he spoke, and his sister humored him, an image flashed through my mind–of children in hospital beds, children who will never heal.

And I remembered that the numeric value of Teva, nature, is the same as the numeric value of Elohim, G-d.

“Yes Yaakov,” I told him, “it’s true, a great miracle happened here, right here on your left thumb.”

  1. Wow, I need to put back on those child eyes and see the great miracle in every moment, in every detail I take for granted…

please, please don’t use the phrase, “children who will never heal”
    how do we know?
    what do we know?
Hashem can make a miracle for all our children.
Relief and healing can come in the blink of an eye.
Mashiach will come (speedily, now) and when he does all our people will be healthy.

    • I hear what you are saying, I’m sorry I wasn’t clear. I was referring to sick children who die, G-d forbid…
