The Overweight Mother’s Response

The Overweight Mother’s Response

A mother of 4 young children was finding it hard to lose the weight she had gained during pregnancy.

One day, a doctor rebuked her, “If you keep on gaining this much weight with each pregnancy, just imagine what you will look like if you have 8 children!”

The proud mother, unmoved, responded: “I imagine that if G-d blesses me with 8 children I will look very much like a mother who has given birth to 8 children!”

  1. So timely for me. Thank you.

  2. Medicine at its best. Rude and unhelpful! Why didn’t the doctor just tell her the secret to painless weight loss? Get off sugar. It works because it’s the way we were meant (built by nature) to eat.

    • If only it was that easy! I’ve never been able to lose any weight by getting off sugar! People’s bodies are different.

i also haven’t eaten sugar and very little white flour for many years, but until I started actually watching my calorie-intake, i didn’t lose any weight. Everyone is different.

        • That’s exactly what worked for me too: I just ate way too many calories from other foods (most of them supposedly very healthy). Good to hear I’m not alone 🙂 Thanks!

  3. I agree. While a Mom’s body does change shape after pregnancies and birth, there is something we can do about wieght gain. It took me years to get to the point that I was willing to give up sugar. Now that I’ve done it, the weight started coming off, and I am so happy.

  4. It is so hard to get off sugar. It has a hold on me I can’t quite seem to get out of…. I don’t like that I can’t seem to stop eating it. It seems like it is needlessly in everything ( even savory things) … especially since I am not able to make all of my food from scratch and must rely on prepackaged things often. Any advice?

    • Get an accountability partner. It really helps to have support and to know you have to report back the someone!

I’ll gladly be yours🙂 – maybe Chana Jenny can connect us, or you can click through my name to my website (nothing to do with sugar, it’s about learning to play Jewish music!) and contact me through the contact form and then I can email you back.

  5. Wow how kind of you!! I will! Thank you. I love this community!
