Scientists Reveal the Impact of a Mother’s Love (3-Minute Mommy Peptalk)

Do you ever ask yourself at the end of a long mothering day what you actually accomplished? Dr. Shlomit Mizrachi, an expert on brain and behavior from the Technion, demonstrates the dramatic impact a mother’s love has on our children’s brains and lives.

I just received this correction regarding something I said in the peptalk:
Just want to make a quick note, epigenetics does not change your DNA. That’s why it’s called EPI genetics meaning above genetics. The DNA sequence or instructions are totally unchanged. In epigenetics there are a number of modifications to the proteins that the DNA is bound to, or parts of the nucleotide that cause the DNA to be more open (which allows it to be “read” and turned into protein) or closed (which turns it off and prevents production of protein). So in your context a mother’s love can turn on and off genes but it doesn’t change them in the sense that the sequence remains the same. Mutations on the other hand (from the sun, cigarettes or carcinogens) can actually change the instructions of DNA.
Keep sharing and inspiring us all.
