The 4th Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Innovative Advice to My Great-Great Grandmother

The 4th Lubavitcher Rebbe’s Innovative Advice to My Great-Great Grandmother

In honor of 19 Kislev, here is an incredible family story I’ve never shared before…

In 1875, concerned that her husband had fallen ill on account of a curse placed on him by a different man she had loved and almost married, my great-grandmother sought out the advice of her Rebbe, the Rebbe Maharash.

This video features a recording of my grandmother Florence Freedman A”H*, telling the story she heard from her father, John L. Bernstein, about his mother’s meeting with the 4th Lubavitcher Rebbe.

(Please note, unless marked otherwise, all of the photos in this video are for illustrative purposes only).

*My uncle Eric Freedman made this recording of my grandmother in 1988.

  1. What a fascinating piece of family – and general Jewish- history. Thank you for sharing this.

  2. Did her husband recover?
Are the pictures of her parents real? If not, do you know who they are?

    • no, the only real photos are the ones I labeled in the video. I don’t know who the other photos are of, I found them on pinterest I think.

In the end, her husband died and she remarried.
