The Coronavirus/Adar Connection

The Coronavirus/Adar Connection

We Weisbergs (like all residents of planet earth) are getting concerned about the coronavirus. Yesterday, an old family friend, Dr. James Lewin, sent around the following guidelines to friends and family so they can protect themselves from infection.
I was most struck by his advice to:
“Stay happy and eat well. Happy people are less likely to get sick!”
I’m pretty sure Dr. James isn’t aware that he sent out his list of guidelines on the first day of Adar, an entire month in which it is a mitzvah to be happy.
But his guidelines make it clear: one way to keep from getting the coronavirus is to remember “Mee’she Nichnas Adar Marbim b’Simcha!”
“From the time Adar enters, be exceedingly joyful.”

Just in case you, like me, are a resident of planet earth, and would also like to know how not to get the coronavirus, here are Dr. Lewin’s other suggestions:

No one knows for sure, but at present, in order to stay healthy:

1. If you and your family have not had the flu vaccine, get it. The flu vaccine won’t protect you from coronavirus, but you are much more likely to get the flu (even if you’ve been vaccinated) than to get coronavirus. If you get sick, it is more likely to be the flu (or a common cold) than the coronavirus.

2. Wash your hands with soap and water frequently, especially after
you’ve been in crowded places such as buses, light rail, playgrounds,
the zoo, etc.

3. Try not to rub your eyes.

4. Try to avoid crowded places

5. If you have a cold, wear a mask to protect others. But a mask is not
likely to protect you if others near you are infected.

6. Stay happy and eat well. Happy people are less likely to get sick.

Stay Happy and Healthy!
James
