The Bathroom Shidduch

The Bathroom Shidduch

Last Shabbat I was sitting with my neighbor Esther in the park, and I asked Esther how she met her husband.

When Esther told me the story of her bathroom shidduch, I knew I had to share….This is what she told me:

“I met my husband 7 years ago. We were both 27 years old and I had made aliya 3 years before from Holland after finishing law school. I had an internship in a law office and my supervisor sent me to a government office in the Klal Center.

“After I was done at the government office, I went to the bathroom and was washing my hands afterwards with the netilat yedayim cup.

“It turned out that my husband’s aunt worked in the Klal Center as an accountant, and she was also in the bathroom. His aunt is not observant, but when she saw me doing netilat yedayim she recognized that this was the same way she had seen her newly-religious nephew, Yehuda, washing his hands.

“So she told me that her nephew was also religious, and maybe he would be a good match for me? We spoke for a few minutes, she told me about Yehuda and I told her a bit about myself, and she took my phone number and he called me, and the rest is history.

B”H, now Esther and Yehuda are happily married with four children. And all of this is thanks to one devoted aunt who was on the lookout for a match for her nephew even in the unlikeliest places…
