Remembering the Wife of Israel’s President, Nechama Rivlin A”H
After an extended illness, Nechama Rivlin, the wife of Israeli president Reuven Rivlin, passed away today at the age of 73.
Nechama Rivlin was a dedicated mother and grandmother who was passionate about empowering women and children. She also loved art and dance.
And her 48-year marriage to the president? Nechama Rivlin, of blessed memory, would insist, “Please don’t call me the First Lady! Just call me the president’s wife instead.”
I imagine Nechama Rivlin objected to being called “First Lady” out of humility: Don’t make a big deal out of me! I’m not important, I’m just married to somebody who is! But when I saw this wonderful photograph of Nechama and Reuven Rivlin on a state visit to Spain, I thought of Nechama Rivlin and all us wives supporting our husbands in so many ways. And it made me feel very proud to be one too.
In her memory.
