Back to School
Yesterday morning, on the last day of the 2-month-old Weisberg homeschool, my 5-year-old Yoni plopped himself down onto a fluffy pillow lying outside my bedroom. And then he luxuriously closed his eyes and exclaimed, “Eema, this pillow is so comfortable. It’s as comfortable as…you!”
I laughed SO hard that my pillowy post-quarantine belly jiggled with joy.
Today I saw something that I didn’t think I’d see again this school year: my kids leaving home in the morning in order to attend a full day of school.
I am thrilled that this morning I am sharing my home with only 3 people (and a puppy) rather than 9 people (and a puppy) as I was 2 weeks ago. This morning I had a chance to do something I haven’t done much of over the last 2 months: hear myself think!
But still, I will miss moments like Yoni’s pillow musings yesterday. Those moments of simple, slow-paced family togetherness that have filled these past 2 months, with nowhere to be but home. And nobody to be with but together.
Wow, there’s school???!! Amazing! Is it all regular? Any restrictions? We have no starting date in sight.. we’re still in deep quarantine, no minyanim etc.
Good reminder for us -still in quarantine mom’s- to take advantage of those special moments- thanks!
I am so happy for you and your children.
I hope we all will cherish the sweet spots of quarantine when we look back in the future.
May haShem give us all strength and what we need to survive. Please help us to grow from this experience and not be smothered.
