Since tragedy struck the Gueta family, different people have told me about the under-cover acts of chesed performed by my neighbor, grieving mother Milka Gueta, that were kept secret from everyone besides the recipient. How she bought the school books and would sometimes clean the apartment of neighbor who is a single mother. How she paid to cater the shiva of a needy family. How she works as part of the support staff at the ICU of Shaarei Tsedek Medical Center, an angel to patients and their visiting loved ones. How she spends Shabbat afternoons at the shul next to her home reciting Tehillim with the little girls. For years I’ve greeted Milka on the street, but I never knew she was a hidden tsadika hiding in plain sight! Which reminds me that there are so many Jewish moms like that. Hidden heroines. May Hashem send comfort, healing, and good news to this holy woman and her family.
