A Rainbow Over Gaza Today
Our old friend Rabbi Michael Bernstein is visiting from Atlanta on a solidarity trip and when his guide took him to see the Gaza Strip, this is the incredible spectacle that awaited him.
Which reminds me of the very first rainbow. In the time of Noah, the Torah teaches, the world was full of Hamas (violence) and Hashem decided that the time had come to destroy that Hamas-filled world.
And Hashem sent a great flood, leaving the world a clean slate for Noah and all the blessings brought by his descendant Avraham and his wife Sara and their descendants.
After the Flood, Hashem put a rainbow in a cloud, and told Noah and his sons: “And as for Me, behold, I establish My covenant with you and with your offspring after you…This rainbow is the sign of the covenant that I give between Me and you
…to generations forever.”
