The Real Reason the Red-Headed Girl was Crying
Yesterday I posted about a young girl who cried at a bar mitzvah I attended when the names of the hostages were read.
This morning, my friend Ilana (whose son, David, was the bar mitzvah boy) informed me that this red-headed girl (in photo) is 13-year-old Dariel Bardach-Goldstein, and Hersh Goldberg-Polin (better known since October 7th as Hersh ben Perel Chana) is her cousin.
Finding out the real story behind this girl’s tears was a sharp reminder for me that as the months pass, and the horror and disbelief we felt on October 7th fades into the background of our lives, for Dariel and other family members of the hostages, there is no moving on. This was, is and will be the horror and headline of their lives every single day until their loved ones are back home.
May Hersh and the rest of the hostages be home in time to celebrate Purim with their families: “And for the Jews there was light and joy and nobility and happiness.” AMEN!
