Where Does He Get his Strength? by a Soldier’s Wife
This is a photo of my husband and our 2-year-old daughter. The number of days my husband, the 8th-grade teacher/assistant battalion commander, spent with her during the second year of her life can be counted on one hand.
Since October 7th, he’s been holding together complex military zones to prevent future terror attacks. Of course he is not alone, he is with hundreds of other soldiers who are sacrificing their lives, the lives of their families, their careers, and their spirits for the homeland.
This photo was taken when we visited him before Rosh Hashanah.
My husband’s in his 3rd round of reserve duty since the beginning of the war. He started round 3 just 4 days after finishing round 2 when he was drafted after Nasrallah’s assassination. When my husband was drafted again, I thought how we spent all of August alone, and now he’s being taken away from us for the holidays as well…
To my surprise, my husband told me that every single soldier in his battalion had shown up for this 3rd round. Even though they had finished a very rough round less than a week before.
And I ask, how? And why? And they-
They don’t ask. They just come
With all the difficulty of being a “drafted family” since October 7th, I tell myself that one day we will tell our children that when Israel was fighting for its survival, we weren’t among those who stood by.
I try to choose to stay strong from the spirit emanating from my husband and his fellow soldiers.
May this war end soon, with peace and security for all of Israel, and with all our dedicated soldiers safe and sound in body and spirit, back home.
