Bat Sheva’s Miracle Blizzard 14th Birth
Bat Sheva Shushan is no novice at giving birth– but her 14th birth (to her 7th daughter) this past Sunday definitely took her by surprise.
When her waters broke, Bat Sheva and Harry Shushan set off from their home in Nachliel towards the nearest delivery room. But when they reached the 443 highway, like hundreds of other drivers they were met with a blizzard-induced traffic jam that wouldn’t budge.
So Bat Sheva breathed through her contractions as their car stood completely still for five minutes, fifteen minutes, half an hour, an hour. But by that point, Bat Sheva felt the contractions coming closer together, and she knew the birth was near, even if the hospital wasn’t.
Bat Sheva’s husband called for help and, miraculously, within a few minutes a midwife appeared to deliver the baby.
B”H, both mother and daughter (whom they named Yehudit-Shlomit) made it to Hadassah Hospital and are doing great.
Bat Sheva told Yediot Achronot yesterday, “This birth was hysterical as well as historic….When we were in the car, we didn’t have anything with us. I was scared to death of what would happen when the birth started. I was terrified and suddenly everybody helped us out. Baruch Hashem, she was born and I am very happy and feel so thankful to all the people who helped and assisted us.”
