How do You Say Kiddush Hashem in French? Frum Man Tries to Prevent Suicide
Several days ago, the famous French YouTuber Dimerci-tv posted a video in which he conducts a terrifying social experiment.
Demerci stood on a crowded street, and poured what appeared to be flammable fluid on himself, and then pulled out a lighter in an appartent attempt to set himself on fire.
What makes this video so terrifying is seeing the indifferent onlookers watching this man from a cafe, eating and chatting, as if they they are watching a movie rather than a human being taking his own life in front of their eyes.
But then, within a few seconds, an Orthodox Jew appears. (This hero, ironically, turns out to be instagram star Mendel Narboni
Mendel jumps in and knocks the lighter out of the man’s hands, in order to save him, and prevent the suicide.
DimerciTV has over 3 million followers on YouTube alone. And I’m happy that so many people around the world will be able to see with their own eyes what Judaism teaches, that like Hashem, each of us is supposed to be “Somech Noflim,” a support to lift up those who have fallen. In our homes, in our communities, or, like Mendel shows the world by personal example, on a busy Paris street.
WOW, B’H!!!
