My Tu b’Av Moonππ©ββ€οΈβπβπ¨π©΅
Tonight I went out on a walk and saw the huge full Tu b’Av moon rising in the Jerusalem sky.
And it moved me that I’m living in the same city and seeing the same moon as all those single girls who (over 2 thousand years ago!) would dance this night in the vineyards of Jerusalem in hopes of being found by their future husbands:
“Rabbi Shimon ben Gamliel said: There were no holidays for Israel like Tu b’Av and Yom Kippur, when the daughters of Jerusalem would go out in a borrowed white dress, so as not to shame those who did not have one… and the daughters of Jerusalem would go out and dance in the vineyards. And what would they say? “Boy, open your eyes and see what you choose for yourself! Don’t look for beauty, look for [a good] family. Grace is false and beauty is vain, a God-fearing woman will be glorified”! (Tractate Taanit)
Just as those girls hoped and prayed to find their other half, May Hashem answer all the Jewish girls and women still waiting…Still waiting. How long will they need to wait?
And among them my dear daughter Hadas Eliana bat Chana. By next Tu b’Av, please God, I hope that her prayers (and mine) will have been answered.ππ°π
