After an Eye Injury, from Darkness to Light
Yesterday afternoon I was putting away a vacuum bag of summer clothing when the bag’s corner scratched the inside of my eye. My husband took me to the emergency room, where the doctor gave me a tube of antibiotic eye cream coupled with a dire warning that “your eye is going to hurt a lot, a lot!”
So I missed yesterday’s candle lighting, cause opening my eyes hurt too much. This was sad for me cause Chanukah is probably my favorite holiday of the year, and my favorite part of this favorite holiday is sitting by my menorah with my feet up, and looking at the candles.
But instead of that, I spent all yesterday evening and all day today in a night-dark room. It hurt too much to be in the light or read, so I mostly slept and rested, when not applying my cream thrice daily and taking the maximum permittitted dosage of advil at 4-hour intervals.
And then today, around candle-lighting time, I suddenly realized I felt better. With a patch over my scratched eye I could read and be in the light and sit by my candles with my feet up, as I am right now.
Thank you Hashem from bringing me out of the darkness and into Your lights. Chanukah Sameach!
Wonderful, B’H!
