An Update on My Dad and Me

Thanks to all of you for your prayers, my father is B”H feeling much better thanks to the incredible staff of the PCU at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore where he spent 2 weeks. This Friday my father got transferred to a rehab center a few minutes from where my brother lives near Washington, DC which means that I get to return to Israel on Tuesday (God willing!). The big challenge now is that my father hasn’t been able to walk or stand since he fell. Thanks for keeping him in your prayers: Matityahu Tuvia ben Esther Faiga.

My Olympic Babysitter by Sheizaf Tal Meshulam

(Translation by JewishMOM.com) Listen to this, on October 10th I still wasn’t able to keep myself and my family above water, and in the place where I live they sent volunteers to help the wives of soldiers who’d been drafted. I received a message from someone I didn’t know who wanted to come help me out and I immediately agreed. The first time we met she helped me with my girls, prepared a meal, cleaned the house and did my shopping. Only in retrospect did I find out that she was helping me instead of training for the...

I’m in the West, but my Heart’s in the East

I’m in the West, but my Heart’s in the East

Tonight, as I sit in Baltimore (with my father on the mend in the hospital B”H) awaiting Hezbollah’s response to Israel’s assassination of Fuad Shukr, I’m realizing that when your heart’s in Israel it’s actually easier to be THERE than HERE. This feeling I have reminds me of the saying: “To be a mother is to watch your heart walk around outside of your body.” That’s why I was nearly paralyzed with anxiety when l left my very first baby with a babysitter that very first time… And...

The Queen of Nahariya by Nir Shaulian

(Translation by JewishMOM.com)After a few long months serving and a few months back home, yesterday I was called back for just one day of training for the upcoming military operation in the North.I arrived at the train station in Nahariya and waited for a friend to pick me up. It was a hot day and I didn’t want to stand in the sun for too long, so I took the opportunity to walk around and see the city. Many months ago, we were the unit that defended Nahariya [ just 4 miles from the Lebanese border]. And I was interested to see what was left...

Nova Survivor Crushes Glass Under Chuppah with Prosthetic Leg

Ben and Gali got engaged shortly before Simchat Torah, but at the Nova festival they were both injured by terrorists and lost their right legs. It took them many months to recover, and to celebrate their wedding last month. For me, this chuppah encapsulates the Jewish people today. The mixture of sadness and joy. Of injury and healing. Of loss and new beginnings. Mazal tov to Ben and Gali! Am Yisrael Chai! ✡👩‍🍼Join the JewishMom.com WhatsApp group, where we strive to make every Jewish Mom smile every day 👨‍👩‍👦‍👦...

Hersh’s Torah Scroll

Hersh’s Torah Scroll

Last week, Rachel Polin Goldberg spoke so beautifully at the inauguration of the writing of a Torah scroll for Hersh and all the hostages. I am in awe of this woman. Though the truth is, I don’t remember ever not being awed by a Jew drawn unwillingly into the spotlight after being struck by tragedy. And every time, I think how, if this is a representative sampling of the Jewish people, what a remarkable people we are. Please God, may Hersh and all the hostages soon be home to dance with this Torah scroll! Join the JewishMom.com WhatsApp...
