Supermarket Tsaddikim
[Every day, my learning partner Ilana and I share moments of Divine Providence we experienced. Here is the wonderful story she shared with me this Friday…]
Today at 12:30 I realized that I’d run out of oil for my Shabbat candles. So I ran to the mall. My regular oil guy was already closed. So I ran down to the Osher Ad supermarket.
Customers were still leaving, but the guard wasn’t letting anybody new in. I begged the guard, “Please, I need oil for my candles!” but he wasn’t budging.
2 young men who were about the leave the supermarket overheard my conversation with the guard, and they said, “We’ll get it for you!”
“Are you serious?” I asked. But they insisted. So I told them exactly the kind I like, the blue lamp oil. And not only did they search around the gigantic supermarket to find exactly the kind I wanted, they even waited for 15 minutes in line for me!
But that’s not all, while I was waiting for them, another woman was trying to get into the supermarket to buy drops for an easier fast for her family. She told me these drops really work, and I should try them. I told her, “Thanks for the info, maybe for next year cause the guard isn’t letting anybody inside.” Somehow she convinced the guard to let her in, and when she came out she handed me a package of drops!
Unbelievable. V’Amcha kulam Tsadikim. Hashem, what a holy nation! To find out just how holy all you need to do is stand outside a supermarket right after closing time Erev Yom Kippur:)
