From Gaza to Gan: Released 5-Year-Old Returns to Kindergarten

Adorable Emilia Aloni and her mother Daniella were B”H released by Hamas on November 24th. Yesterday Emilia’s teachers and friends, at long last, welcomed her back to Gan (one classmate tells her, “I saw you on TV!”) 2 months ago this video would have seemed like an impossible dream. We’ve experienced so many miracles like this one. 112 to be exact. Praying and waiting for 138 more. May it be soon. please God!...

Meeting Ada, Mother of a Lone Soldier

A few weeks ago Ada from the JewishMom WhatsApp group wrote to tell me that Nefesh b’Nefesh was buying her a plane ticket to visit her 21-year-old lone-soldier son in Israel. Meeting this lovely woman tonight over hot chocolate and bourekas reminded me what a debt of gratitude we owe to our lone soldiers. To young men, like her son, who travel across the world in order to protect Israel and Am Yisrael. So incredibly far away from Eema and Abba. Meeting Ada also reminded me the debt of gratitude we owe the parents of the lone soldiers....

The Satmar Rebbe’s Grandson in Gaza

3 years ago Chaim Meislish, grandson of the Satmar Rebbe, fulfilled his childhood dream of making aliya and joining the IDF where he’s worked his way up to become a commander in the Golani Brigade. I think this photo captures the supernatural unity that we’re experiencing today. Transcending all differences in religious, ideological and political outlook. When this War is over and true, long-standing peace finally graces Israel and our borders, let’s please stay this way. Let’s please remain ONE🙏

Eggs Join the War Effort

The slogan “Yachad Nenatseach” (Together we’ll be victorious!) can be see all over Israel since October 7th. It’s on bumper stickers, billboards, and most Israeli websites. It’s even emblazoned on the front of buses, in place of the bus’ actual destination. So I’ve come to expect it everywhere. But this? This I did not expect! Photo by Tsofia Weisberg

Updated Hostage List

Shabbat shalom (sort of…) The ceasefire ended this morning following the release of 110 hostages. Approximately 129 Israeli hostages are still held in Gaza (including 2 children, whose condition is presently unclear: Kfir (10 months) and Ariel Bivas (4)). Please print up this list (a suggestion: I keep mine in my siddur marked into 7 parts, so I’m able to daven for a certain section every day of the week.) Please also share this list. Print it up and put out for people to take at your shul. Let’s storm the heavens for the...

An Injured Soldier’s Incredible Offer by Ori Shechter

I have a friend whose son was very severely injured in the War, and lost an arm and a leg and is still connected to many machines. My friend told me that his son called over the doctor treating him and told him: “Doctor, if you think there are injured people here who need encouragement and chizuk, put my bed next to theirs, I will give them chizuk!” No words, except Am Yisrael Chai!

A Rainbow Over Gaza Today

A Rainbow Over Gaza Today

Our old friend Rabbi Michael Bernstein is visiting from Atlanta on a solidarity trip and when his guide took him to see the Gaza Strip, this is the incredible spectacle that awaited him. Which reminds me of the very first rainbow. In the time of Noah, the Torah teaches, the world was full of Hamas (violence) and Hashem decided that the time had come to destroy that Hamas-filled world. And Hashem sent a great flood, leaving the world a clean slate for Noah and all the blessings brought by his descendant Avraham and his wife Sara and their...
